Real Housewives

Tonight I caught a few minutes of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on directv tv. As you probably know, the show’s been getting a lot of press because one of the housewives’ husbands (or estranged husband) committed suicide. I have to admit that I’m usually a sucker for any Real Housewives show or even the drama surrounding them in the press, but this tragic event and the publicity surrounding it had an eerie feel to me. From what I understand, Bravo had to re-edit the show after the man’s death in such a way that the show would be sensitive to the issues surround the husband and the events that led to his death. It seems like the family or the producers or someone would see the suicide as more of a wake-up call. Reality television is only so much life and only so much art, and we have to remember the subjects are human. Any person put under a microscope is bound to look different than they would from afar. My hope is that we will all learn from this incident, and learn to mind our own business and show the people on television the grace we would desire for ourselves.
